Biography

Steve Allton joined the General Counsel’s office in August 2020.  Prior to joining the office, Steve advised and represented University of Kansas students on a variety of topics, including contracts, tax, employment, intellectual property, landlord-tenant issues, business start-up questions, and criminal matters.  Before he began working at KU, Steve represented state agencies in administrative matters, employment disputes, and all aspects of state and federal litigation as an Assistant Attorney General in the civil litigation division of the Kansas Attorney General’s Office.  He also served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Lawton Nuss of the Kansas Supreme Court and as a research attorney for the Kansas Court of Appeals.    

Steve graduated with his Juris Doctor degree in 2004 from the University of Kansas, where he was named a Rice Foundation Scholar and served on the Kansas Law Review.  He also holds Master of Public Administration, Bachelor of General Studies, and Bachelor of Music Education degrees from KU.  Steve is admitted to practice in Kansas, Missouri (currently inactive), and Colorado (currently inactive).
