Hear from Past Fellows

My time as a Fellow in the Office of General Counsel was invaluable for developing my legal skills and deepening my knowledge of the myriad issues that universities face. I worked closely with attorneys in the office in advising clients university-wide on matters ranging from federal compliance, litigation, contract review, labor and employment, and civil rights. Moreover, my day-to-day interactions with leaders across the university provided keen insight into the practical limits and considerations that they navigate in their roles.  A highlight of my fellowship was gaining litigation experience. I drafted motions and appellate briefs on behalf of the university and ultimately argued a case in front of the Kansas Court of Appeals. Working on cases from the earliest stages of pre-trial litigation to trial preparation, mediation, and all the way through the appeals process was both illuminating and educational. The breadth of experiences during my time at KU laid a strong foundation for my career in higher education, equipping me to address the difficult and complex issues academic leaders confront daily.
